Ask for the county license number

Nassau County's Office of Consumer Affairs says it is against the law to run a home improvement business in the county without a license, and its list of covered work includes doors and garage builders. Suffolk County licenses home improvement contractors through its Department of Labor, Licensing and Consumer Affairs. Both counties publish a free lookup.

Should I keep using the door if a spring broke?

What does a garage door repair cost on Long Island?

Is the service call fee charged on top of the repair?

It depends on the company. Precision Garage Door Service of Long Island lists a normal $69 service call that is free with a repair. Sumo Garage Doors says diagnostic fees run $50 to $150 across Long Island and that most companies credit it if you approve the work on the same visit.
